Designated Service Providers

A DSP is a healthcare provider or group of providers who have been selected by GEMS to provide members with the diagnosis, treatment and care in respect of medical conditions, including PMB conditions. GEMS has selected the following DSPs for PMB care:

• State hospitals
  The State is GEMS's DSP for the treatment of in-hospital PMBs. Locate a provincial hospital.
• Chronic medicine DSPs
  It is recommended that members use the chronic medicine Courier Pharmacy (Medipost) and contracted pharmacies in the chronic medicine Pharmacy Network to obtain all chronic medicine (including medicine for HIV). If they use another pharmacy they will have to make a co-payment out of their own pocket. Members will be allocated to the chronic medicine Courier Pharmacy for a minimum period of six months. Thereafter they can choose another pharmacy on the chronic medicine Pharmacy Network or remain with the chronic medicine Courier Pharmacy. This is in line with the six month script cycle. 
• GEMS Network of healthcare providers
  For members to have access to comprehensive benefits through a network of healthcare providers:
  • Find a T1B network healthcare provider.
  • Find a REO network healthcare provider.
• GEMS Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Network
  For unlimited EMS assistance to all members.

• The healthcare providers designated by the Scheme for the delivery of Prescribed Minimum Benefits (PMBs) to its Beneficiaries are listed in the table below:
